MEXICAN FRENCH TOAST RECIPE

4 large eggs

1 ½ cup milk

4 tablespoons Kahlúa (Mexican coffee liqueur)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

A pinch of salt

8 tablespoons of butter

16 slices of thick sliced ​​bread

6 tablespoons of icing sugar

METHOD OF PREPARATION:

  1. Use a medium bowl, and whisk together the eggs, milk, Kahlúa liqueur, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt. Meanwhile, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Soak the bread in the milk mixture and drain the excess back into the bowl.
  2. Working in parts, brown the soaked bread for 3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  3. Spread the browned bread with the remaining 6 tablespoons of butter, dust with icing sugar, and serve immediately.

SUBSTITUTION:

Tia Maria, another dark coffee liqueur, is an excellent alternative to Kahlúa, so feel free to use this instead.
